Exam · Inspect an OpenUSD scene before physics simulation

Take the exam and earn your certificate.

A real, server-scored exam for this course. Score strictly above 80% to pass and get a genuine, verifiable certificate.

Before you start

We ask for your name and email first, the same as a PDF download, so we know you are here and your certificate can carry the right name.

We privately record your name, email and request IP for this exam request. Read the privacy notice and retention policy.

You can retake the exam any time. Each attempt draws a fresh set of questions.

Written practice, ungraded

Write your response in your own notes, then compare it with the sample answer. This practice is separate from the scored exam and does not affect your certificate.

Practice 1

Inspect ready-candidate.usda and accessory.usda, then predict where the marker will appear in the composed stage.

Compare with a sample answer

The crate body is /World/Crate, the cube /World/Crate/Shape, material /World/Looks/Surface and marker /World/Attachment/Marker. The local reference composes the marker into the referencing branch.

This is an ungraded example of the reasoning supported by the worked answer, not a practical competency judgement.

Practice 2

Predict the ready, missing-units and scaled-parent dimensions before running the inspector.

Compare with a sample answer

Ready is about 0.4 metre per axis. Missing units falls back to 0.01 and produces about 0.004 metre, while also failing explicit-unit authorship. Scaled parent produces about 40 metres. The tolerance accepts floating-point noise, not those scale errors.

This is an ungraded example of the reasoning supported by the worked answer, not a practical competency judgement.

Practice 3

Compare ready-candidate and visual-only without changing either supplied file.

Compare with a sample answer

The cube in visual-only lacks PhysicsCollisionAPI. Crate is the dynamic body and floor is static collision geometry. The CPU report does not establish contact response, settling, penetration or solver behaviour.

This is an ungraded example of the reasoning supported by the worked answer, not a practical competency judgement.

Practice 4

Inspect unbound-material and invalid-material. Explain why they fail for different reasons.

Compare with a sample answer

Unbound material retains the material prim but has no physics binding on the crate, causing PHYSICS_MATERIAL. Invalid material remains bound but its restitution is 1.2, causing MATERIAL_RANGE under this project contract. Neither teaches measured coefficients of a real material.

This is an ungraded example of the reasoning supported by the worked answer, not a practical competency judgement.

Practice 5

An assistant proposes deleting the dependency check and changing the parent scale. Write a review response before applying anything.

Compare with a sample answer

Reject removal of the dependency check. Request a separate candidate containing only the intended asset correction, explain why parent scale needs changing if relevant, preserve the negative fixture, and reopen/rerun all checks against unchanged expectations.

This is an ungraded example of the reasoning supported by the worked answer, not a practical competency judgement.

Practice 6

Prepare a short handover with observed results, exact limits and the next validation owner.

Compare with a sample answer

Record actual OpenUSD static-inspection results and input digests, identify each expected finding code, and state that no solver, NVIDIA validator, browser or PDF was run. Assign engine-specific rehearsal and independent course/exam review before any release claim.

This is an ungraded example of the reasoning supported by the worked answer, not a practical competency judgement.

About this exam

Is this exam graded?

Yes. Every question is scored on our server, never in your browser, and you need a score strictly above 80% to pass. The questions are a real, reviewed bank for this course, drawn fresh for each attempt.

Is it only multiple choice?

Yes. This is a multiple-choice knowledge assessment, with at least one question from each chapter in every attempt. Written exercises are separate practice and are not automatically scored. Passing does not establish practical professional competence or independently verify identity.

Is there a time limit?

Yes, 45 minutes, shown as a countdown once you start. If time runs out, whatever you have answered is submitted automatically.

Do I need to download the PDF first?

No. This course's full text is on its own page, so you can read it online and come straight here when you feel ready.

What do you do with my name and email?

We privately record your name, email, request IP, course and privacy acknowledgement for this request. Newsletter consent is separate and optional. See /privacy.html for storage and retention. A passed exam creates a server-stored named certificate. An email confirmation is not identity assurance.

Can I retake it if I fail?

Yes, straight away. Each attempt draws a fresh set of questions and shuffles the answer order, so it will not be identical to your last attempt, and an attempt can only be submitted once.

Is the certificate real?

It is a genuine, server-issued certificate with its own verification page and a unique ID, not a self-declared one. It records that you passed this course's exam on this date. It is not an accredited qualification, a professional licence or proof of employment.
