Written practice, ungraded

Write your response in your own notes, then compare it with the sample answer. This practice is separate from the scored exam and does not affect your certificate.

Practice 1

Prepare a one-page contract another researcher could use to understand the review purpose and limits.

Compare with a sample answer

A successful contract identifies a structured critical narrative review, accepts relevant observed outcomes without requiring benefit, keeps unavailable material unresolved and requires source IDs, locators and interpretation limits. R01 supports an observed fall from 120 to 90 MWh, or 25 percent, in an uncontrolled example. It does not establish causal contribution. Amendments need a dated reason and consistent reconsideration.

Ungraded written practice. Compare the reasoning with the chapter and source records; this is separate from the scored knowledge exam.

Practice 2

You have public metadata, a CC BY article, licensed full text and metadata for confidential R08. Plan a drafting task without transferring restricted content.

Compare with a sample answer

The packet passes only when every included item has a basis for the proposed operation. Public metadata and full text are separate. CC BY conditions do not erase other rights. Licensed text remains out when transfer permission is unresolved. R08 contains only approved minimal status metadata. The reviewer inspects what would actually be sent.

Practice 3

A draft states only: AI searched campus energy savings; twelve results; comprehensive review completed. Repair the record without inventing activity. Then map duplicate records and the correction to source documents and study identities, with the final disposition counts.

Compare with a sample answer

The repaired record labels a proposed search strategy and twelve supplied teaching records. It makes no live-execution or comprehensive-coverage claim. A future executed search needs platform, query, fields, filters, dates and exports. R06 is an observed-outcome scope mismatch; R09 is an access gap. Every action is evidenced or labelled proposed. Reference reconciliation: The account is 12 incoming records, 10 unique citation candidates, five retained documents representing four studies, two scope exclusions and one each permission-held, full-report-not-retrieved and reference-unverified. Use corrected sensor 4 percent with interval -2 to 10; retain 12 percent only as superseded history. Identity and integrity do not establish claim support.

Ungraded written practice. Compare the reasoning with the chapter and source records; this is separate from the scored knowledge exam.

Practice 4

Prepare a disposition sheet for the ten nonduplicate candidates. A colleague proposes including R06, excluding R09 as poor quality and combining R03 with R11 as two studies.

Compare with a sample answer

R06 fails the observed-outcome criterion. R09 cannot be appraised without the required report. R03 and R11 belong to one sensor study, with R11 supplying the current corrected estimate. The retained set represents four studies. A successful sheet distinguishes missing access, missing permission, a scope exclusion and a known correction.

Practice 5

A draft says: the campus campaign cut total electricity by 7.9 percent, the HVAC intervention saved 15 percent after weather adjustment, and two sensor studies found 12 and 4 percent reductions.

Compare with a sample answer

The campaign has +5 percent total use and about -7.9 percent per-user use. HVAC has a raw 15 percent reduction but an adjusted estimate of 2 percent with interval -3 to 7. The sensor correction replaces the original estimate with 4 percent, interval -2 to 10, for one study. Each statement remains an observation or estimate within a fictional supplied report, not a general causal conclusion.

Ungraded written practice. Compare the reasoning with the chapter and source records; this is separate from the scored knowledge exam.

Practice 6

Prepare the complete fictional review package, a 1,200 to 1,600-word narrative, a claim ledger and a 10-minute defence. Work alone if necessary, but label the review arrangement honestly. Include a 300-word bounded synthesis and a separate decision note addressing the sponsor request for one headline percentage.

Compare with a sample answer

Synthesis: A successful synthesis retains R05 total and per-user directions, uses corrected R11 rather than double counting R03, distinguishes raw and adjusted R04 results, and limits R01 to its uncontrolled observation. It makes no claim of a complete literature search. The decision note explains what additional local evidence would be needed. Package and defence: Completion requires a coherent auditable package, not a claim that every criterion has been professionally assessed. The narrative must retain the four distinct study contexts, corrected version, uncertain estimates, unresolved candidates and closed-search limitation. Record missing external review as a limitation. Do not manufacture reviewer names or approval evidence.

About this exam

Is this exam graded?

Yes. Every question is scored on our server, never in your browser, and you need a score strictly above 80% to pass. The questions are a real, reviewed bank for this course, drawn fresh for each attempt.

Is it only multiple choice?

Yes. This is a multiple-choice knowledge assessment, with at least one question from each chapter in every attempt. Written exercises are separate practice and are not automatically scored. Passing does not establish practical professional competence or independently verify identity.

Is there a time limit?

Yes, 60 minutes, shown as a countdown once you start. If time runs out, whatever you have answered is submitted automatically.

Do I need to download the PDF first?

No. This course's full text is on its own page, so you can read it online and come straight here when you feel ready.

What do you do with my name and email?

We privately record your name, email, request IP, course and privacy acknowledgement for this request. Newsletter consent is separate and optional. See /privacy.html for storage and retention. A passed exam creates a server-stored named certificate. An email confirmation is not identity assurance.

Can I retake it if I fail?

Yes, straight away. Each attempt draws a fresh set of questions and shuffles the answer order, so it will not be identical to your last attempt, and an attempt can only be submitted once.

Is the certificate real?

It is a genuine, server-issued certificate with its own verification page and a unique ID, not a self-declared one. It records that you passed this course's exam on this date. It is not an accredited qualification, a professional licence or proof of employment.
